The U Street corridor is one of the newest, hippest and most vibrant neighborhoods in all of DC. “U Street” refers to the neighborhood on U Street and the couple of blocks north and south stretching from 9th Street to 17th Street NW. U Street has seen an explosion of new development and revitilization in recent years, with seemingly every house being renovated, buildings being converted to high end luxury condos, and cafes, shops and restaurants (including DC’s best Caribbean and soul food) opening along U Street and 14th Street. The birthplace of Duke Ellington, the U Street neighborhood is also home to many live jazz performance venues. Real estate in U Street is mostly Victorians and Federals. A smallish two bedroom can still be had for under $900,000, but most of the bigger, renovated houses are selling well above $1,000,000. And due to the generally younger demographic in the neighborhood, there are many condos available that vary widely in price based on size and level of renovation.
U Street is served by the U Street metro.
